SEMIPALATINSK TRAVEL BROCHURE

RADIATE CONFIDENCE

This brochure project was a favorite of mine, done in my first semester of Nait for Digital Graphic Design Tools. The class was tasked with creating a brochure for any real world location using only Adobe Illustrator. I wanted to highlight a location that would be unique and allow me to do something fun creatively, so I chose the Soviet Union's nuclear testing site Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan.

IAEA QUARTERLY

I have been a nuclear energy worker for a decade, and this project allowed me to use some of my knowledge to make the brochure feel more real. I used the real world International Atomic Energy Agency as a base for the project, coming up with a magazine concept that could be published by them. This was my first big layout and typography assignment and it taught me a lot about the power of Illustrator.

LOOKING TO STAND OUT

We were challenged to create a small map within the brochure using primarily the pen tool. The map I made was based off the real world map of Semipalatinsk and the gradient used is representative of the actual levels of radioactivity found in the area. This map was a fun challenge and helped me master the pen tool and showed off my attention to detail.

A RAD DESIGN

Another fun challenge was to use Illustrators text tools to fill a shape with text. I wanted to challenge myself and impress my instructor, so I filled the radiation trefoil with tidbits about the nuclear tests that took place at Semipalatinsk and tinkered until it all fit perfectly.
